Chart of the Day

🏆 Today's Chart of the Day was shared by Ryan Detrick (@RyanDetrick).

  • In mid-February, Ryan noted the S&P 500 was entering a seasonal rough patch. Like clockwork, it peaked on February 19th and corrected -9.3%.

However, Ryan reminds us that the index has historically bottomed on March 12th over the past two decades.

It will also be quite telling if the market ignores this seasonal turning point. To quote the legendary technician Walter Deemer, "When the market doesn’t do something it 'should' do, it usually means that the underlying trend is unusually powerful."

The Takeaway: Over the past two decades, March 12th has historically been the seasonal low point for the S&P 500.
