Chart of the Day
🏆 Today's Chart of the Day was shared by Adam Turnquist (@adamturnquist).
- The S&P 500 experienced its first Death Cross since March 2022 today as the 50-DMA crossed below the 200-DMA.
- Adam points out that the Death Cross hasn't been as deadly as its name suggests. The last Death Cross in March 2022 was a decent sell signal, considering $SPX fell another -14% before bottoming seven months later.
- Looking at all signals since 1950, $SPX was down one month later with a median loss of -0.7%. However, over the next 3, 6, and 12 months, the index was higher more often than not.
The Takeaway: The S&P 500 got its first Death Cross signal in two years today. Short-term returns have historically been weak, but generally speaking, the Death Cross hasn't been as "deadly" as it sounds.
